I was scrambling to find a fun theme for Carson's 6th birthday party. We knew we were going to have it at our house and with 5 & 6 year old boys (and some girls) it needed to be an active party and one we could do outside :) Our rental home isn't real big, but luckily we have a very large yard!
An obstacle course themed party popped into my head (Carson wanted a puppy dog party, but I had just done one for Makayla and what was I going to do for very active BOYS?!...we talked him out of it.)
I googled obstacle course birthday parties and of course, Martha Stewart pops up with some FABULOUS ideas for the very kind of party! Perfect!
The ball started rolling and here's the result:
I made the door sign out of foam board cut into an oval shape, then I traced letters & the number 6 (ones I printed & cut out of paper) and painted. The blue fringe is crepe paper cut into strips and glued into a ruffled/scrunched way. Then I glued wide ribbon onto the back to hang from the door.
The balloon table. We kept it inside until we were ready due to the hot weather! My husband assembled the entire thing...didn't he do a great job?!
Cake pops! Second time I've made them and they are still BIG hit (will be posting on how to make them later this week....SOOO GOOOOD!
Cupcake tower. I almost always make my kids' birthday cakes/cupcakes by scratch, but now I use a box mix and "doctor it up". I still love to make homemade frosting...because seriously it's the BEST!
Love how this felt flag banner turned out and it was super easy too! I think I'll be using this in Carson's room.
The obstacle course started out at one end of our yard and they each had to shoot a basket into the basketball hoop, the run through hula hoops, (none of which I photographed) then shoot an inflatable deer with a Nerf gun.
Funniest thing ever! But they (or most of them) are boys!
Then they needed to crab walk from one pole to the next and then run over to stack the red cups (we had another mama helping unstack them between kids).
Then they ran over to the balloon table.
Where they had to crawl through it (some crab walked through it!)
Lastly, they had to sprint to the finish line.
And dive under the ropes!
Each "participant" was awarded some super cool medals....
I made these too (idea from Martha Stewart).
And they all received one each of these fun prizes:
A badminton racket with two birdies, a jump rope and a fun wind up toy!
After the obstacle course was over with, I had each of the kids pair up with a buddy and we filled water balloons (it was getting really hot by now!) The balloons broke pretty easily and I ended up filling up many more and they enjoyed a little water balloon fight.
One of my favorite things I like to do before a birthday party, is to line a muffin tin with liners and scoop ice cream into each liner. Wrap well and freeze it. That way once it's time for cake & ice cream no one is having to scoop ice cream and no one is waiting patiently for their ice cream! It's all ready to be served and everyone gets the same!
I actually made mine up two days before the party.
So easy & is a huge time savor!
Here's the link to everything I used from Martha Stewart. Everything else we came up with.
It was a real blast and we are SO thankful the weather was great (we were suppose to possibly have rain/storms...EEEK!)

Amazing!! You are so amazing!!
